CURRICULAR ABSTRACT:

  1. Alfredo Ortega-Rubio is a National Researcher Level III, maximum category recognized by the National System of Researchers of the Federal Government of Mexico.

  2. he has been awarded with three National Prizes, of the Mexican Republic Federal Government. The Lázaro Cárdenas Award 2013, in the category of Distinguished Graduate of the National Polytechnic Institute. Recognition of the General Advisory Government Council of the National Polytechnic Institute specifically for his outstanding professional career as a graduate of the National School of Biological Sciences, IPN, on Biodiversity Conservation research and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources. The 2003 National Excellence Award for the Nature Conservation, because the quality and applicability of his scientific research for the nature conservation in Mexico, and The 1993 Forestry and Wildlife National Excellence Award, because the quality of their wildlife research projects.

    These three National prizes were personally delivered in a public ceremony by the President of the Mexican Republic.

  3. He reached the Bachelor's degree in Biology at the National School of Biological Sciences of the National Polytechnic Institute in 1977. In 1981 he got the Mastery of Sciences specialized in Ecology, at the Graduate Section of the National School of Biological Sciences IPN. In 1986 he got the Doctorate in Sciences specialized in Ecology, at the ENCB National Polytechnic Institute in 1986. He obtained the Honorific Mention. First graduate of the Ecology Ph. D. program of the National Polytechnic Institute.

  4. He has been Author or Co-author of 159 original research papers published or in press in International Journals, with established Editorial Committee and peer reviewed. 106 of these 151 papers have been published in Indexed Journals in the Science Citation Index in the ISI.

  5. Additionally he has been Author or Co-author of 14 essays in prestigious Journals. He has edited 17 books and published 63 Chapters of books. He has been author of 81 works published as Memories in extended version or Abstracts of International and National Congresses and Symposia.

  6. He has been also author of 113 Technical Reports developed under contract. These technical Reports offers specific measures and alternatives for the use and management of natural resources and/or for to mitigate the negative effects on the environment caused by the development of proposed productive projects.

  7. He has imparted, as Titular professor, a total of 19 Ecology courses at Ph. D. and Master in Sciences level in the following Institutions: National School of Biological Sciences IPN; National Autonomous University of Mexico; Baja California Autonomous University; Baja California Sur Autonomous University, and Northwest Biological Research Center. He has imparted 16 courses at Bachelor's level to students of the Biology career at the National Autonomous University of México and the National Polytechnic Institute. He has offered 4 specialization courses to high-level government employees.

  8. He has performed 19 stages of field work and study in different Biosphere Reserves of the Soviet Union, Venezuela, United States of America, Spain, Costa Rica, and France. He has imparted 117 lectures in Congress and other Meetings. He has imparted 50 Seminars and Conferences in different forums.

  9. He has been Director of 50 Ph. D. Mastery's degree, Bachelor's degree concluded Thesis: 25 Ph. D. concluded Thesis; 20 concluded Thesis of Mastery's degree, and 5 concluded Thesis of Bachelor's degree. He has been Director of 14 Social Service Students. At the present he is Director of 3, Ph. D. Thesis and 2 Thesis of Mastery's degree.

  10. He has directed 39 projects of scientific research and resource management, developed through of a contract or by complementary support to that of the Research Centers that he has been ascribed. Three of those projects are particularly outstanding, because they developed the basis to generate the Presidential Decrees that establishes three Biosphere Reserves: The Vizcaíno Desert; The Revillagigedo Archipelago; and La Sierra de La Laguna.

  11. He has directed 74 projects of Environmental Impact Assessment, developed through of a contract or by complementary support to that of the Research Centers where he has been ascribed. All these projects have contributed decisively to make compatibles productive activities with the environmental conservation.

  12. The total sum of the economic resources that he has managed; economic resources received by the natural resources management research projects and environmental impact assessment projects that he has directed, has been: US $ 8' 132, 465.00 USA DOLL (Eight Millions, one hundred thirty two thousand, four hundred sixty five American Dollars). These economic resources has been provided additionally by other Institutions, as additional support to the Research Centers where he has been ascribed, trough Grants, Contracts and Special Financing.

  13. He has directed 39 Institutional projects of scientific research developed through the support of the Research Centers where he has been ascribed. All of these projects were focused to the knowledge of the structure and dynamics of the natural populations and productive management of resources.

  14. His published works have received 762 Bibliographic quotes.

  15. He has received 72 distinctions, sponsorships and awards due to academic merits, by national and international organizations. Of all of them could be pointed out, besides both National Excellence Awards, the following:. He has been awarded with the International Prize: INTERCIENCIA 2007, in Biodiversity Conservation in the American Continent. He has been distinguished in 2009 as a Member of the Admission Committee of the First Generation of the National Research System of the Panama Republic. Elected as the Titular representative of the academic sector of the State of Baja California Sur, to the Federal Consulting Council of Sustainable Development. Distinguished with the Raptor Research Foundation William C. Andersen Memorial Award. Named Distinguished Graduate of the National School of Biological Sciences National Poliytechnical Institute. Distinguished as Member of the Scientific Research Academy of México and distinguished Recognized Researcher by the "Ricardo J. Zevada" Studies and Research Fund.

  16. He was awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology and The Medal of Merit Science and Technology of Baja California Sur, 2011. Both distinctions established by the Government of the State of Baja California Sur and the Honorable Congress of the State, to recognize those people whose career in scientific research, have contributed significantly to scientific knowledge, conservation of biodiversity, benefit contributions of society and to promote economic development in Baja California Sur.

  17. He has participated as Expert in 10 National and International Committees. He has participated as Advisor of 14 National and International Institutions. He is member of 7 different Assessment Commissions. He is by invitation member of Editorial Committees of 4 Journals of international circulation, and he is at present reviewer of 6 journals of International circulation.

  18. He has directed the Researches Group that developed the instructive for the elaboration of the Preventive Reports and the Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, in the General Intermediate and Specific levels, for the environmental analysis of the building and operation of any Marine, Ship Yard and Port in all México.

  19. He is member of 14 international and national Scientific Societies. Of all of them it could be pointed out to be Founder member of the Spanish Herpetological Association.

  20. From January 2006 up to June 2012 he was Management Director of the Northwest Biological Research Center. From October, 1998 to May, 2002 he was Environmental protection and Global Change Program Director of the same Research Center, academically coordinating a group of research projects in which participated 74 Researches and Technicians. From April 1994 to September 1998 he was Coordinator of the Environmental Impact Assessment Program of the Northwest Center of Biological Research. From August 1986 to March 1994, he was Director of the Terrestrial Biology Division of the Baja California Sur Center of Biological Research.

  21. Since 1985, continuously, he has been member of the National Research System of the Mexican Republic. Since the 2001 year, up to the present, he is National Researcher Level III, the maximum category of this Federal Research System. Since 2004 he is Titular Researcher Level “E”, which is the maximum researcher category of the CONACyT national research centers, and the first researcher of CIBNOR to attain such category.
